Mijailovic's life sentence upheld

The Swedish Supreme Court ruled Thursday to uphold the verdict of the life sentence of Mijailo Mijailovic for the murder of Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh.

The Supreme Court upheld the original ruling of life sentence from Stockholm’s county court, reported the Swedish paper Aftonbladet.

Mijailovic has previously admitted that he was responsible for the murder of the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Anna Lindh. During the case, experts have argued whether or not Mijailovic was mentally capable to serve his sentence in jail.

In connection with the confession, Mijailovic stated that he heard voices that urged him to attack Lindh. Stockholm county court stated that he was healthy enough to serve a life sentence. The sentences was appealed and changed to psychiatric treatment.

After the appeal, the 25-year-old was held in at the psychiatric clinic in Sundsvall. His doctor Göran Fransson stated that Mijailovic mental condition was not a severe psychiatric disturbance in accordance to the law. With the sentencing from the Supreme Court, Mijailovic will serve his sentence in jail after all. Mijailovic has previously asked to serve his sentence in Serbia.
