No to marihuana as medicine

The Norwegian Minister of Medicine says no to marihuana as pain relief for MS patients.

Many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) use marihuana and hashish as pain relief. This fall TV 2 revealed that a marihuana network has been established for MS patients and marihuana is being cultivated in Oslo.

Labor politician Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, health political spokesperson, asked the Minister of Health to consider if marihuana should be legalized for medical use in Norway, but Ansgar Gabrielsen is opposes the issue, reported Avisenes Nyhetsbyrå (ANB).

«The ministry has reached the conclusion that the knowledge today is too poor to legalize the use of marihuana for medical use in Norway,» wrote Gabrielsen in a letter to Hanssen.

Hanssen is not satisfied with the answer.

«I think it’s a little defensive,» Hanssen said. «My advice is that he should establish a collaboration with the MS organization so that we also can contribute with information on this issue.»
