Norwegian PM upset with broadcaster

Top politicians claim the news program NRK Dagsnytt on purpose hold back information they were provided from politicians in order to create a more dramatic news program.

The Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik and his colleagues are allegedly greatly annoyed with NRK in connection with several concrete news reports air recently.

According to Parliamentary Secretary Gunnar Kvassheim at the Prime Ministers office, they repeatedly experience that NRK Dagsnytt do not release comments from cabinet ministers or other government sources, reported the Norwegian financial paper Dagens Næringsliv.

Kvassheim claims that the NRK administration choose to send the governments comments later in the day in stead. This alleged practice is against the adopted media code of ethics, which states that persons who have been exposed to severe accusations must have the opportunity to rebut them at the same time.

News editor Per Andres Johansen at NRK Dagsnytt rejected the criticism. He denied that NRK Dagsnytt tried to create drama in their programs and stated that they focus on what is most interesting for their audience.

«It is not always the comments from the cabin minister,» he pointed out to Dagens Næringsliv.

Johansen claimed that there is also a great difference between strong accusations and criticism. The radio journalists can not run off to the cabin ministers every time NRK report social criticism.

«Then Kjell Magne Bondevik would have been present in every single broadcast,» Johansen stated.
