Strong increase in air travel
Numbers from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) indicate a passenger increase of 19.4 percent, compared with the year before.
This increase is in spite of the increased oil and fuel prices which have contributed to a number of the worlds aviation companies have increased their ticket prices. ITAT thinks the increase is connected with less fear for SARS and terrorism, reports BBC.
«We have not only recovered from the shock of SARS and the war in Iraq, but there is reported a higher traffic level than in 2000 world wide,» said Giovanni Bisignani, director general at IATA, to the British television channel.
According to the organization, the aviation industry increases with 3.6 percent annually. In spite of this great increase, it is only half of what it was in the late 1990s.
