Aker Kværner lands major contract

Kjell Inge Røkke’s Aker Kværner has landed a massive contract.

Aker Kværner is going to build large parts of the new onshore plant for the gas field Ormen Lange on the coast of Møre, according to a press release from Norsk Hydro Thursday. Hydro is the operator of the Ormen Lange development.

The contract’s value is estimated to NOK 2 billion (USD 294 million).

The contract is to build large parts of the onshore plant at Nyhamna in Aukra Township in Møre og Romsdal.

The contract covers designing, purchasing and building of the receiving plant and the export plant for gas. The planning starts immediately, while the construction at Aker Kværners yard at Verdal and at Stord starts in about one year.

Ormen Lange field is that second largest discovered gas filed on the Norwegian shelf. The water depth is between 800 and 1100 meter. A comprehensive underwater production plant is being built and the gas will be transferred to the processing plant at shore by pipe lines.

The planned production start is October 1, 2007.
