Pakistani forces reclaim tunnel after bloody battle that left 24 militants dead
Militants leave behind "huge" quantity of arms, say Pakistani military
Mititants had earlier seized the tunnel on Friday
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) – Pakistani security forces Sunday regained control of a tunnel in northwest Pakistan after a bloody battle that left 24 militants dead, a military news release said.
Other militants fled the area following Sunday's fighting, "leaving behind a huge quantity of arms and ammunition," according to a posting on the Pakistani military's Inter-Services Public Relations Web site.
Militants had seized the Kohat tunnel in the town of Darra Adam Khel during a battle with Pakistani forces on Friday, according to the military.
Local tribal leaders in Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province approved Friday's military operation against the "miscreants," who attacked military posts near Spina Thana before seizing Kohat tunnel, the military said.
The operation caused a massive road block along the Indus Highway, which links nearby Peshawar with Lahore. E-mail to a friend
