Arne Næss Jr. 1937 - 2004
By the age of 19, Arne Næss Jr. had already been the first to climb twenty Norwegian mountains. At that time, he took off his climbing shoes and went abroad to get a career in shipping.
Næss started his shipping career in his second uncles business, Shipowner Erling D. Næss. He was hired on at the New York office in 1964. Næss started on his own in 1968, and he had later great success in London in the field of shipping and oil.
When he became rich and successful as a financier, he once again returned to his passion of climbing, and he organized the first Norwegian expedition to Mount Everest in 1985.
Everest was extremely successful, and it will remain as one of the most successful expeditions ever, said Ivar Tollefsen, who prepared and carried out the so-called five mountain-expedition with Næss in 1992. Arne Næss Jr. was born in Germany, August 12, 1937. His parents were Norwegian Kikki Næss and German Raab, a German national. Kikki Næss is the sister of the mountaineer and philosopher Arne Næss.
The family lived in Germany during WWII, but Arne and his mother moved to Norway after his parents were divorced after the war.
Married Diana Ross
For the Norwegian people, Arne Næss may be more famous for his marriage to Diana Ross in 1986. Arne and Diana were married for 13 years and had to children together.
Before Næss married Ross, he dated the Norwegian actress Mari Maurstad for four years.
Næss leaves behind seven children. His last child was born in March of last year.
The last five years, Næss has been with Camilla Astrup, 39, of Oslo, Norway. The couple had two children.
