Blockbuster drops Norway

The American dream to conquer Norway is over. Blockbuster planned 40 stores in Norway, but after just six months, Blockbuster is throwing in the towel.

Two video stores in Oslo was all the company managed to establish since the launch six months ago, and the company is now dropping its plans of conquering Norway.

The company is closing its two stores in the capital March 14, and all of the 19 employees of Blockbuster Norway have lost their jobs, according to the Norwegian financial paper Dagens Næringsliv.

«We didn’t find any attractive business premises,» explained Blockbuster Director Jesper Østergaard to the paper, who also said that they felt like suppliers did not support them.

Blockbuster is owned by the American media giant Viacom.
