Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik has been asked to give an account of his connection to the US based Christian brotherhood the Fellowship Foundation.
Labor leader Jens Stoltenberg and Socialist Left leader Krisitin Halvorsen have asked Bondevik to explain his relations to the powerful membership based Christian brotherhood.
«Bondevik should find a suitable time to give account of his role in this network as soon as possible,» said Stoltenberg, according to the Norwegian paper Dagbladet.
The Labor leader stated that with his membership Bondevik may be viewed as a supporter of ultra conservative politics.
«The Prime Minister is allowed to meet whomever he wants, but the group stands for a mix of religion and politics that I strongly advice against,» Stoltenberg said.
Halvorsen is also demanding an explanation of the relationship between the Christian Democrat Party and the Fellowship Foundation.
«There must be openness connected to the meetings Bondevik attends,» Halvorsen said to the paper. «I will demand a political explanation of why he maintains the contact with this group.»
The Fellowship Foundation is a powerful network organized by Christians in the US. The headquarters is located in Arlington, VA., and Bondevik has been here several times, and among other things, met with Attorney General John Ashcroft on several occasions. None of these meetings have been registered among the Prime Ministers official duties, reported Dagbladet.
«Forum for tro og verdier» has closed prayer meetings at Stortinget in accordance to the practices of the Fellowship Foundations.
