Dead porn producer forced to pay compensation

The lives of two girls from Ghana were shattered when a Norwegian filed them in a porn movie. The man died before the trial, but the two 13-year-olds were awarded compensation.

Thanks to the work of a stubborn counsel for the victims, a woman who has never meet the girls, the two girls will get a total of NOK 140,000 (USD 21,342) in compensation, reported the Norwegian daily Bergens Tidende.

The now deceased 59-year-old man from Fana outside Bergen came to Ghana in the fall of 1999 to film a porn movie. Among the «actors» were two 13-year-old girls.

When it became known in the little community that the two girls had participated in the movie, they were expelled from the community and had to run away to live in a life in poverty. Several years later, Norwegian police managed to locate the girls in connection to an investigation. However, the man was found dead in Thailand before the case against him came up in court. The chances of the girls getting any compensation appeared to disappear for ever, reported the paper.

But the story got a happy ending after all, because the girls’ Norwegian lawyer, Grethe Gullhaug at Kluge Advokatfirma, filed a demand for compensation against the estate of the deceased man. Gullhaug stated that there was clear evidence that the girls had been exploited and demanded compensation. After one year of negotiations and threats of a civil suit against the porn producer’s heirs, out-of-court settlement was reached.

«The girls were awarded NOK 70,000 (USD 10,678) each in compensation,» Gullhaug said. «In Ghana it is a considerable amount. After the settlement, they can probably be considered wealthy.»
