Government stops oil strike
The government wants to prevent that oil workers on strike and a lockout by the Norwegian Oil Industry Association paralyzes half the Norwegian oil production, and the government ruled that the parties have to meet for a compulsory arbitration.
The decision was reached at weekly cabinet meetings at the royal castle Friday. The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
The Norwegian Oil Industry Association informed Thursday that it was going to move for a lockout of 2400 oil workers as of Monday night. A lockout would have nearly closed down the entire oil and gas production on the Norwegian shelf.
