Increased terror alert stops smugglers

Fear of terror and stricter controls at Spanish ports and boarder points have contributed to harder times for Norwegian liquor smugglers.

The terror attack in Madrid, March 11 of this year, has made it more difficult to smuggle liquor from Spain. According to sources in the smuggler environment, it is now difficult to get large amounts of liquor out of the country, reported the Norwegian paper VG.

«It’s never going to be the way it was,» said one of the sources to the paper.

«After the terror attacks it’s much harder to get large amounts over the boarder, regardless of where in the world you may be.»

Terje Berget, head of the police’s boarder department in Halden, said they have noticed that they no longer intercept large seizures as often, and he claims that it may be connected to the terror attacks.
