Coach Fabio Capello decided to start with Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano and Vincenzo Montello, and with that there was no empty spot on the field for Carew.
Vincenzo Montello gave his home team a lead of 1-0 after just 11 minutes; Cristian Chivu added to the score with another goal some minutes later, before Francesco Totti put an end of all questions about the winning party already after 23 minutes.
Rome’s captain, who turns 27 in two weeks, changed the lead to 4-0 during the 58th minute of the game.
John Carew made his debut 70 minutes after the start of the game against Brescia. The much talked about Norwegian entered the field as he replaced his colleague Montella.
During the final minute, Rome got a penalty kick because Mancini was tripped, and Carew got permission to do the job, and he made no mistakes. Carew kicked it hard and scored!
It was a real dream debut for Carew, and a 5-0 victory!
