The man had been drinking spirits and methylated spirits and had been driving for miles when being stopped in Sund outside Bergen. His alcohol level was a staggering 3.24 per thousand.

The man pled guilty as charged in court but said he did not remember drinking alcohol. He could only remember parts of the hazardous drive, Bergensavisen reports.

The 47-year-old was sentenced to 45 days in prison and a NOK 60,000 fine. Still, the man may avoid prison of he accepts joining a drink-driving programme arranged by the Norwegian Criminal Care organisation.

«This is the highest alcohol blood level I have ever seen. A level of 2.5 is regarded as high and I am surprised the man managed to drive the car at all», said the prosecuting counsel.
