Monstertorsdag to the Sundance Film Festival

For the very first time a Norwegian film has been selected to participate in the main competition at the American Sundance Film Festival in January.

Arild Østin Ommundsen’s film «Monstertorsdag» (Monster Thursday) has been selected to participate in the main competition as the competition for the first time opens up for foreign films.

Redford’s festival
Sundance, one of the US’ largest film festivals, was established by Robert Redford in 1981 and the annual event takes place in Salt Lake City, Utah. The festival is viewed as breaking ground for new talents, but also several well established directors present their more narrow projects here.

According to the Norwegian Film Institute, the interest from international agents and festivals have increased significantly after it become known that «Monstertorsdag» was selected to compete at the famous festival.

Moviegoers sceptical
«Monstertorsdag» has not gotten the greatest reception by moviegoers in Norway, in spite of good reviews. The distributor claims it is because the film was launched at the same time as a number of other good movies.

Both the director and the producer are planning to attend the festival.

The Norwegian films «Budbringeren», «1732 Høtten», «Musikk for bryllup og begravelse», and «Suffløsen» have been invited to the film festival in the past, but not to the competition as it was for American films only.
