Anders Myrvold finally got the message he has been waiting for all season Thursday. The injury-ridden Detroit Red Wings has called on him to replace Chris Chelios.

«It’s just the best,» Myrvold said to TV 2 Nettavisen.

He has been waiting patiently for the chance since he signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings five months ago.

The Norwegian has played 58 games and registered 16 assists for Detroit’s farmer team Grand Rapids Griffins, which currently leads the American Hockey League (AHL).

Myrvold has done very well as the captain of the Grand Rapids Griffins. The 28-year-old has always been close to the NHL, and he has been working towards getting back into the big league. Finally he got it.

Veteran Chelios injured his shoulder in the recent loss to Vancouver Canucks. In addition, the Red Wings is still missing Derian Hatcher.

The 28-year-old has played in the NHL before. He was apart of the Colorado Avalanche when they won the Stanley Cup in 1996. That time around, he played too few games to get the hockey world’s most splendid memorabilia; a Stanley Cup-ring.

«You have to play finale match in order to get the ring,» Myrvold explained. «I had to settle for the bonuses.»

He has also played for the Boston Bruins, the New York Islanders, and the New York Rangers in the NHL.

But this time around, his next game will be for the Detroit Red Wings when they meet the Calgary Flames at 3 a.m. Norwegian time, Thursday night.
