Norway takes over the chairmanship
«It is a short period of chairmanship, so we have to be focused,» said the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen, to the Norwegian television channel NRK. «It will be focused on implementing the reforms connected to the European Court of Human Rights. There are a huge number of cases in line and it is in itself a problem for every one of them who are standing in the back of the line and who have a good case.»
For the time being, the court rules in about 20,000 cases annually, but has more than 65,000 case to rule in. The number of cases increases with 1,500 cases each month.
The CE has 45 membership countries and includes more than 800 million people.
