Norway has decided to send immediate emergency aid to flood victims in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
At least 900 people have died in the violent storms which has been raging on the Caribbean island Hispañola during the last couple of days, but the death toll is expected to raise above in the thousands.
The Norwegian government has decided to donate NOK 1 million (USD 150,000) in immediate aid to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The aid will be distributed by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and its local partner Servicio Social de Iglesia. The money will be used for local purchases of food, clothes, medicines and drinking water, reported the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.
