The Norwegian embassy in Cairo is closed because of a treat. The embassy will not reopen until Sunday on the earliest, but the ambassador is at work as usual.

The Norwegian embassy in Cairo never opened Thursday morning after receiving a treat, said Karsten Klepsvik, press officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs, to the paper Aftenposten Aften.

Klepsvik refused to comment on what the threat contains, why it was made, or how the department was informed of it.

“We evaluate the security situation continually,” Klepsvik stated. “However, this does not mean that we advice Norwegians not to travel to area if they have planned a vacation there.”

According to Norwegian Foreign Affairs Department, they have not been informed that any other embassies have been closed. And even if the Norwegian embassy is closed, Ambassador Bjørn Frode Østern was at the office as usual.

“I have direct all questions to the Foreign Affairs Department’s press officer,” was the only thing Ambassador Østern said when TV 2 Nettavisen called his office.

The embassy will remain closed Thursday and will open again on Sunday on the earliest as the Norwegian embassy in Cairo is not open on Fridays and Saturdays.
