While Swedish industry manufactures products that continuously fall in price, Norwegian industry has been focusing on items that increase in price.
Norwegian industry is smarter than the Swedish because it makes goods that sell at a good price. This statement was made after comparing official statistics from the two countries, reported the Norwegian daily Aftenposten.
Swedish industry mainly focuses on products that are much more technological than Norwegian products. However, this means little as along as the prices on the Swedish technology products continue to fall. The Swedes produces 50 percent more now than ten years ago, however, the value of the production has remained about the same.
«It doesnt help to make an increasingly number of cell phones if they greatly fall in price year after year,» said Harald Magnus Andreassen, head economist at First Securities. «It is smart to make bulky workshop products in stead of fancy telephones as long as you make more money on it.»
Swedish car producers have also experienced price falls. In Norway the trend has generally been positive the last ten years, even if oil is not included in the statistics.
The collected Norwegian industry production experienced a price increase of 30 percent from 1995 to 2003. In Sweden, it fell with 17 percent from 1995 to 2001.
