President and CEO Øystein Berg at the governmental institution Petrad will be honored Wednesday with the Chinese friendship prize in the Great Hall of People.
China has received aid from Norway for more than 20 years in order to develop a modern oil industry. The Norwegian governmental institution Petrad has had a central function in this work, and China is now showing its gratitude by honoring Berg and 55 other persons, reported the Norwegian daily Aftenposten.
«Norway is different from other oil countries in the world because we do development work in new oil countries on their terms,» Berg explained. «We do this without demanding anything in return.»
Berg claims that Norway and Norwegian companies have an advantage by this marketing method.
Petrad was established by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and NORAD, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, in 1989. The organization has made Norwegian experience and competence within petroleum research available to all parts of the world.
