The Norwegian tanker «Kilstraum» collided with the Norwegian submarine «Utstein» off the coast of Great Britain Thursday night.

The tanker, which is owned by the shipping company Utkilen, was on its way from Liverpool to Norway when the collision occurred at 3:58 a.m., according to the company’s website. The tanker continued to its scheduled destination after the accident.

Ronald Hansen, general manager of Anders Utkilen’s shipping company, said at they currently do not know the reason for the collision.

«We are going to meet with the military in order to get the facts on the table and find out of what happened,» Hansen said to TV 2 Nettavisen.

The collision occurred outside Isle of Lewis, northwest of Great Britain. Only the submarine’s periscope was visible when the collision occurred.

«What happened is that the tanker Kilstraum collided with Ulstein,» Hansen said to TV 2 Nettavisen. «This occurred in the middle of the night. They have communicated and reported that things are under control. No one was injured. The information has been confirmed by the royal Navy’s emergency action group.»
