Norwegians go haywire on redecorating

Norwegians are estimated to spend billions on redecorating this year. As last year, it is particularly the bathroom which is in focus, and the kitchen is the next hottest project.

«Norwegians are going completely haywire when it comes to redecorating,» said Gunn-Helen Øye, social anthropologist and trend researcher at Prognosesenteret, to TV 2 Nettavisen. «Our estimates are NOK 32 billion (USD 4.7 billion) this year.»

Use twice as much as Swedes
Compared with Swedes, Norwegians use twice as much to redecorate their homes. The Danes are somewhere in the middle.

The main reason why Norwegians use so much money on redecorating is that they to a larger degree own their own housing, and Norwegians have larger homes.

Øye stated that the greatest difference during the last couple of years is that Norwegians use more money when they decide to start a project.

Furthermore, Norwegians have become much more preoccupied with design, and the producers have also become better at giving people what they want.

Kitchens the next new thing
Norwegians were very preoccupied with redecorating bathrooms last year as well, but in the time to come Norwegians will allegedly focus more on the kitchen.

According to Øye, the most popular color for the kitchen will be orange.
