According to social services, over ten percent of the work force in Norway receives invalidity benefits.
Currently 300,000 individuals receive invalidity benefits, according to the Norwegian television channel NRK.
If the people who are out sick and in rehabilitation are added, the number increases to 600,000 individuals of legal working age who are without employment and receives benefits from social services.
It is dramatic that so many people are not part of working population because of health issues, said Ola Heen Strømmen, assistant director.
Also the Minister of Health Ingjerd Schou said that the high number is a problem. She wants more flexible solutions and a detailed follow up of the people receiving invalidity benefits.
