Pictures from the princess’ christening

Sist oppdatert:
Bishop Gunnar Stålsett blessed Princess Ingrid Alexandra at her christening in Slottskapellet Saturday in front of 269 distinguished guests.

A proud Crown Princess Mette-Marit carried her princess into Slottskapellet which was decorated by pussy willows and Ingrid Alexandra roses for the special occasion.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who wore the same christening robe King Olav wore to his christening, cried in her father’s arms as Crown Princess Mette-Marit read from the Bible. She continued to cry throughout the ceremony while her aunt, Princess Märtha Louise, and grandmother, Queen Sonja, did their best to comfort the guest of honor.

«A new heir to the throne is carried to her christening, and a new page is added to our history,» said Bishop Gunnar Stålsett in his speech.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra was christened at 12:45 p.m. King Harald held her as she was blessed by Bishop Stålsett.

The ceremony ended just before 1 p.m., and shortly thereafter, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit came out on the castle’s balcony to wave to the people and show off their daughter. King Harald and Queen Sonja also come out, and they were evidently proud of their little grand child.
