Sir Lanka wants Norwegian help
The President asked Norway to continue as an impartial third player in order to try to negotiate a peace process between Sri Lankas authorities and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), according to a press release from the Prime Ministers office.
«I said Norway would be prepared to arrange negotiation talks if LTTE also asks us to take on that type of role,» Bondevik said.
Bondevik thanked President Kumaratunga for the confidence the Sri Lankan authorities have shown Norway.
«When we receive a request from both parties to continue, we will go in a phase where we consult with the parties regarding how the process can be brought to the next level,» Bondevik said.
