Ståle Solbakken sails up as the hottest candidate to replace Nils Johan Semb, head coach of the All-Norwegian team. Much indicate that Semb himself suggested the 35-year-old as a candidate for the job.
Semb resigns when Norway is done with the qualifier or has completed their soccer games in the European Championship. He supposedly informed Norges Fotballforbund a long time ago who he wanted to replace him.
Rumours has circulated for a long time that this person is Ståle Solbakken.
The 35-year-old has had great success as the coach for Ham-Kam this season, and he is held in high regard by the players on the All-Norwegian team.
When Semb informed of his resignation, Solbakken shortly thereafter announced that he will quit his job as assistant on the team when Semb resigns. Personally he says that he had never considered filling Sembs shoes.
I have not discussed this with the organization, and I have not thought about it, Solbakken said to the Norwegian daily Aftenposten.
But he did not rule out the possibility if Norges Fotballforbund contacted him.
That is a completely new situation, Solbakken said.
