Son rescues father after shipwreck

After their ship was wrecked, a 50-year-old man took his 80-year-old father on his back and swam 200 metres to the shore.

What was meant to be a nice fishing trip turned out to be a drama for the 80-year-old and his son, grandson and an 11-year-old neighbour.

The 21-foot long boat started taking in water 200 metres from the shore and sank shortly after, BT reports.

The 80-year-old had trouble in the water and the son rescued him by pulling him on his back, swimming back to the shore. The 17-year-old grandson and the young neighbour contributed to the rescue as well.

«This is definitely a heroic act. Swimming 200 metres with a grown man on your back is far from easy», said the police.

The 80-year-old was sent to hospital as he was very cold, but he is said to be in good condition considering the situation. None of the other people in the boat were injured.
