Top executives charged in child porn case

A number of top executives are among the 117 Swedes who are charged with possession of child pornography after the raids May 25.

A shopping mall director, a veterinarian, a former top athlete, a famous director, a politician, several top executives, and several police officers are among the 117 Swedes who are suspected of paedophilia and possession of child pornography, according to the Swedish paper Aftonbladet.

Revealed by credit cards
The suspects after the many raids May 25 are between 19 and 70 years old, and they are located all over Sweden. The police located them by their credit cards which were used to purchase child pornography over the Internet.

Even if the identities of the suspects have not been released by the police, the Swedish paper claims to have identified 16 of them. Among them are academics, top executives, and people in high positions in society.

Three police officers
Three of the 117 people questioned are police officers in the Stockholm region.

«I can fully understand that the general public feel uncomfortable when police officers are suspected of this type of crimes,» said Carin Götblad, county chief of police, to the paper.

The suspects have used their credit cards at porn sites. Among the confiscated material are both films and pictures of Swedish children who are being sexually abused. The cases are now being investigated by local police.
