Union of Education Norway calls for change

Union of Education Norway calls for change as teachers in Østfold report increasing violence, vandalism, and harassment by children as young as primary school.

The Union of Education Norway demands that townships establish some guidelines for ensuring that these problems can be resolved easier.

«Physical violence, hits, kicks, and spitting, vandalism of employees’ cars, increasing amount of harassment and threats,» said Dag Løken at the Union of Education Østfold, to the Norwegian television channel NRK. «It should be obvious that this is unacceptable.»

He said teachers and other school employees are exposed to harassment by children as young as primary school.

«It’s kept hidden, something which only increases the problem,» Løken said, and stressed that both employees and the local environment lack routines and norms in order to solve the problems that are arising.
