The unidentified perpetrator followed the woman home from a shopping mall and forced his way into her apartment.
She was raped just after 8 p.m. The neighbour in the apartment next door allegedly heard nothing, but the police are convinced that the woman is telling the truth.
“There is not doubt that the rape she reported actually happened,” said Asbjørn Bjørnnes, head of operation at Asker and Bærum police district, to TV 2 Nettavisen early Tuesday morning.
The woman states that the man was a total stranger. According to her description, the man is somewhere between 20 and 25 years old. He has short, dark hair, and he is between 170 and 180 cm tall. He is of a heavy build and has a bit of a stomach. He was wearing a half length jacket, light colored jeans, and beige shoes.
“His skin was light, but he spoke Norwegian with a heavy accent, and that was the reason why the woman believed that he was of a foreign origin,” said Marlow Grandalen, head of operation, to TV 2 Nettavisen late Monday night.
“The woman called us at 8.15 p.m. and said that she had been raped in her own apartment,” said Grandalen. “She said that the person possible followed after her from Sandvika Storsenter. He followed after her up into the hallway to the apartment and when she opened the door to the apartment, he came up from behind and forced his way in.”
The police had not gotten any useful leads Tuesday morning, and the perpetrator is still at large.
Spent the night at the police
The 20-year-old was being checked at the hospital at about 11 p.m. Monday night.
“She has been sitting in questioning for several hours here and explained all the details,” Bjørnnes stated. “She will receive follow up from us in the future.”
The hunt for the perpetrator continues Tuesday. The police have checked the scene of the crime and have knocked on every door in the neighbourhood. The police are currently checking surveillance cameras at the shopping mall and in the area hoping that the perpetrator has been caught on tape.
